Retail sentiment

Global Social Sentiment · Frozen

Self-labeled retail sentiment (Bullish/Bearish) from StockTwits. SPY/QQQ/IWM are the retail proxy for index futures (ES/NQ/RTY); BTC.X for the crypto derivative. Multilingual news sentiment by country rounds out the read; Reddit and forums plug into the live engine.

What does it measure?Measures what the everyday trader feels and talks about, by country. Sentiment tends to lead actual volume: if interest grows in a country, it is an early signal of where to expand.

Why Argentine retail takes shelter in the dollar

In Argentina, the everyday trader isn't in it as a hobby: they hedge against inflation and the peso's devaluation. That's why they channel savings into hedging instruments: MEP, CCL, crypto and CEDEARs (proxies for foreign stocks). It is structural hedging demand: a trait of local retail behavior, shaped by the macroeconomic context.

How retail grows (and how to grow it)

Retail doesn't grow on its own: it grows when certain conditions are met. Here are those conditions, what the data shows today, and the factors that drive (or hold back) its growth.

1. What makes retail grow

Easy access

Accessible brokers, little capital to start, simple sign-up and onboarding. If getting in is hard or expensive, retail stays out.

Product that fits

Small contracts (micro/mini) for small accounts, and hedging instruments where there's inflation (LatAm). The product has to solve a real problem.

Interest and timing

When sentiment and conversation grow, retail is ready to step in. Sentiment leads volume.

Education

Understanding the instrument lowers friction and fear. Those who understand, trade.

2. Where retail interest concentrates (per today's data)

In U.S. futures, retail remains a small slice (~5% of the market). And interest isn't concentrated only there: in LatAm retail appetite is high and structural.

Argentina is the clearest case: chronic inflation → retail trades to hedge (dollar, crypto, CEDEARs). It's structural hedging demand — real and measurable.

3. Factors that drive retail participation

Micro and mini contracts

They lower the entry ticket: a US$500 account can trade. It's the single biggest factor in lowering the access barrier.

Distribution via local brokers

In high-interest markets (LatAm), retail access runs through the broker that already has the client.

Hedging in inflationary markets

In Argentina and similar markets, retail trades to hedge against the peso; where there's inflation, dollar hedging concentrates structural demand.

Localized education

Content in the local language and with local-market examples (dollar, CEDEARs) reduces friction — not a generic translation.
